Video: Woman Drives Car on Railway Line Near Hyderabad, Disrupts Multiple Train Services
In a startling and highly unusual incident on the outskirts of Hyderabad, a woman drove her car for nearly 8 kilometers along a railway track in Telangana’s Ranga Reddy district, leading to major disruptions in train operations. The episode, which unfolded near the Shankarpally area, triggered a swift response from railway authorities and local police.
The woman, identified as a 34-year-old native of Uttar Pradesh, was driving a Kia Sonet when she veered onto the tracks, reportedly under the influence of alcohol. Footage of the incident quickly circulated online, showing the car awkwardly navigating the rails while stunned onlookers watched in disbelief. Panic spread across the railway staff as multiple trains were forced to either halt or reroute.

According to witnesses and railway officials, the situation escalated quickly. Railway workers and police officers gave chase, attempting to bring the car to a stop. It ultimately took about 20 people to remove the woman from the vehicle. In one of the clips, she can be heard yelling, “Open my hands,” after being restrained by the crowd. Officials noted her aggressive behavior and lack of cooperation during the rescue effort.
Chandana Deepti, Superintendent of Police of the Railway Police, confirmed that the woman appeared mentally unstable. “Our initial investigation suggests she had been employed at a multinational company but left recently. We recovered her driving licence and PAN card from the vehicle,” she stated.
Authorities are also exploring whether this may have been a suicide attempt, possibly staged to look like foul play. “We are checking every angle,” added Ms. Deepti.
Railway sources reported that at least 10 to 15 trains, including a key Bengaluru-Hyderabad passenger service, were diverted as a precaution. Additionally, two goods trains and two other passenger trains were delayed for approximately 20 minutes during the ordeal.
The police have taken the woman into custody and are continuing their investigation. She has been sent for medical examination, and an official case is expected to be registered soon.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated event in Maharashtra on June 20, train services on the Western Railway were thrown into disarray after an overhead wire snapped near Palghar station, about 100 kilometers from Mumbai. The disruption, which occurred around 6:55 pm, left hundreds of passengers stranded and forced the cancellation of seven suburban trains. At least nine trains were halted mid-route, and eight goods trains were delayed due to the breakdown in the Vasai Road–Dahanu section.
