Viral Post: ‘Should I choose money or stability?’; Gurugram techie Confused after ditching ₹45 LPA job offer in Bengaluru
Decision to prioritise work-life balance over higher salary sparks debate online
In the fast-paced tech world, big paychecks often steal the spotlight. But one Gurugram-based professional’s choice to turn down a lucrative job for the sake of peace of mind has struck a chord with thousands online.
Posting anonymously on Reddit under the username Hunter3911, the techie revealed that he had recently received two offers—one from a multinational company for ₹38 lakh per annum and another from a top Indian OTT platform offering ₹45 lakh per annum. While the higher package was tempting, the role required relocation to Bengaluru and came with a reputation for heavy workload.
“I rejected it and now I’m feeling guilty. Should I choose money or stability? Did I do the right thing leaving 45 LPA which is 7 LPA more than my current offer?” he asked in his post titled “Left 45 LPA offer due to high workload feeling guilty.”
The post quickly went viral, drawing hundreds of responses from fellow Redditors who largely supported his decision. “Thirty-eight itself is quite a big amount. So you did the right thing by choosing peace over high workload. You will get another opportunity next year to take a shot on 50,” one commenter wrote. Another echoed, “You did the right thing.”
Several users pointed out that the costs of relocating to Bengaluru—both financial and personal—might have offset the salary bump. “I guess you will be losing more than 7L per year going to Bengaluru. So, it was a good decision,” one person commented. Others reminded him that money should ultimately serve happiness. “We make money to live a happy life. Just remember that!”
Many praised his decision as wise and mature, with one Redditor writing, “In you, I spotted a wise man. Good going.”
