Three MNS workers assault man for not knowing Marathi; Netizens call out hypocrisy as attackers shout in Hindi while demanding use of Marathi

A disturbing video from Mira Road has gone viral, showing a restaurant owner being physically assaulted by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers after he said he could not speak Marathi. The confrontation, caught on camera, has triggered a fresh debate on linguistic intolerance in the state.

The video begins with the restaurant owner politely explaining that he does not know Marathi and would be happy to learn if someone teaches him. One of the MNS workers responds aggressively, saying, “This is Maharashtra. You must speak Marathi.” Despite the owner acknowledging that he was doing business in Maharashtra, the workers insisted, in Hindi, that speaking Marathi was mandatory.

The situation escalated when the owner replied, “Most languages are spoken in Maharashtra,” referring to the state’s multilingual demographic. This response enraged the MNS workers, who then slapped and beat him, demanding he speak only Marathi in the state.

Ironically, the MNS workers, while insisting on Marathi continued to issue their threats in Hindi, drawing criticism online. The video shows other individuals joining in the attack, and the assault has since become a major talking point across social media platforms.

Reactions have been pouring in.

One user commented, “This is not the fault of the man, but of the system.”

Another pointed to rising hostility, saying, “North Indians are being targeted in Mumbai again. When will there be real action?”

Some have expressed deep concern over how language and regional identity are being used to provoke violence.
