Viral Video: Real life 'Rancho' helps Woman deliver Baby on Station Platform via Video Call
In a real-life ‘3 Idiots’ moment, a young Mumbaikar guided by his doctor friend helped a woman give birth at Ram Mandir station past midnight.
In a heartwarming act of courage and presence of mind, a young man named Vikas Dilip Bedre helped a pregnant woman deliver her baby on a railway platform at Mumbai’s Ram Mandir Station early Thursday morning. Guided by his doctor friend over a video call, Vikas ensured a safe delivery in the most unexpected of circumstances — a scene that reminded many of the famous “Rancho” moment from 3 Idiots.
The incident occurred around 12.40 am, when the woman, travelling from Goregaon to Mumbai in a local train, suddenly went into labour. As her cries for help filled the compartment, fellow passengers panicked, unsure of what to do. Without hesitation, Vikas pulled the train’s emergency chain, bringing it to a halt at Ram Mandir station. Seeing that the baby was already partially delivered, he immediately contacted his friend Dr Devika Deshmukh, who guided him step-by-step over a video call.
Following her instructions with composure and care, Vikas successfully helped the woman deliver the baby safely on the platform by 1.30 am. Witnesses said the sound of the newborn’s first cry echoed across the station, drawing relief and applause from passengers and railway staff alike.
Musician Manjeet Dhillon, who shared the video of the event on Instagram, described Vikas as an “angel in human form.” He said, “The woman’s baby was halfway out. At that very moment, it felt like God had sent this brother there for a reason.”
According to Dhillon, the woman’s family had earlier been turned away from a nearby hospital, leaving them with no choice but to continue their journey by train. After the successful delivery, railway police and staff arranged for an ambulance to take the mother and baby to a hospital, where doctors confirmed that both were safe and healthy.
In the city known for its relentless pace, this act of compassion reminded everyone that Mumbai’s true spirit lies in its people. As social media flooded with praise, one comment summed it up perfectly: “Vikas Bedre, you are the pride of Mumbai.”
