Netizens defend duo as video reveals actual cause behind the unexpected tumble

A seemingly light-hearted video of two women riding a scooty and suddenly falling flat on the road has gone viral across social media. Initially captioned with “papa ki pari overtake kar rahi thi”, the clip sparked amusement and debate but a closer look tells a different story.

The video, shared by social activist Nazneen Akhtar, shows the women cruising steadily down a highway. Just as they appear to pass an auto-rickshaw, the scooty violently jerks and crashes, throwing both riders onto the road. While early assumptions suggested a reckless overtaking attempt caused the fall, netizens analysing the footage more closely spotted the real culprit, a stone lying in the middle of the road.

Captured from the dashcam of a following vehicle, the moment clearly shows the front wheel of the scooty riding over the stone, leading to a loss of balance. Viewers quickly pointed out that scooters with small tyres are more vulnerable to disbalance when hitting unexpected obstacles like stones or bricks.

One user commented: “Scooty ke pahiye chhote hote hain, kisi bhi pathar ya eet par achanak padne se disbalance ho jaati hai. Yahan overtake ka koi lena dena nahi hai.” Screenshots from the video even zoom in on the stone, validating this claim and shifting the narrative from mockery to empathy.

Fortunately, the women escaped with no serious injuries, and the video has now turned into a conversation around road safety, poor road maintenance, and the dangers of unseen hazards,  rather than just a viral clip for laughs.

As discussions continue online, one thing is clear: this wasn’t a case of rash driving, but rather a reminder of how easily two-wheeler riders can fall victim to road conditions.
