Pune: Local leaders from Wagholi are demanding a demerger from Pune Municipal Corporation, however, residents have completely opposed the move as they want to remain under the PMC administration.

“Many local leaders are claiming that since one and half years, PMC has not done anything for Wagholi then why should we be dependent on them and we should have separate Nagar parishad or Nagar Palikha? However, residents are not in favour as they believe that under the administration of PMC, Wagholi will take more progressive steps,” said Nitin Kumar Jain, a member of Wagholi Resident’s association.

Wagholi Housing Society Association (WHSA) Twitter handle stated, “The current census of Wagholi & development further can only be done through PMC Pune. Not through Nagar Parishad or Nagar Panchayat. We the Residents of Wagholi Demand to be in PMC.

“Humble request to not to sign any letter demanding Nagar Parishad, Nagar Palika being circulated by anti-development elements. Let’s secure our future,” added WHSA Twitter handle.

Another resident from Wagholi, Arun said, “Already we have been pushed 20 years back. Wagholi should be in PMC else we will never see any progress.”

The residents have also planned signature campaigns for ‘Wagholi in PMC’.
