Wakad: 20-Year-Old Engineering Student Jumps from 15th Floor; Friend Arrested for Abetment After Harassment Recording

Pune: A tragic incident has come to light in Pimpri Chinchwad, where a 20-year-old engineering student committed suicide by jumping from the 15th floor of a building.  

The deceased, Sahiti Kalugotala Reddy, was a third-year student at D.Y. Patil College of Engineering in Nigdi Pradhikaran. The incident occurred on January 5 in Tathawade at around 4:45 PM. Initially, the Wakad Police registered  the case as accidental death. However, after investigation, they arrested Pranav Rajendra Dongare (20), a resident of Akurdi, on February 12 for abetment to suicide. 

Sahiti’s father, Kalugotala Venkata Siva Reddy (54), filed a complaint with the police. Days after her death, her friends helped unlock her phone. Three voice recordings were found, addressed to her parents, friends, and the accused Pranav. These recordings, along with other evidence, suggested that Sahiti was facing mental and physical harassment.

Sources revealed that Sahiti and Pranav were friends and possibly in a romantic relationship. The complaint alleges that Pranav exploited her emotions and caused her distress. Following this, the police registered a case and arrested him.

Assistant Police Inspector Gajjewar from Wakad Police Station is handling the investigation under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Vishal Gaikwad, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Wakad Division) Sunil Kurade, and Senior Police Inspector Nivrutti Kolhatkar.  

The police are further investigating the case to understand the exact circumstances leading to Sahiti’s death.
