Pune: Four individuals have been charged in connection with the gas explosion at Tathawade, and three of them have been apprehended by the police. The incident occurred on Sunday near the JSPM College campus and Blossom Public School. 

The accused have been identified as Mahipal Chaudhary, a resident of Punawale; Rahulkumar Rajdevram, a resident of Thergaon; Mohammad Rashid Mohammad Naseem, a resident of Uttar Pradesh; and Chandrakant Mahadev Sapkal, a resident of Tathawade.

An FIR has been registered at the Wakad police station in this case. According to the police, Mahipal Chaudhary and Rahul Kumar illegally stole propylene gas with the help of the driver of the gas tanker (GJ 16/AW 9045), named Tirupati Carrier.

As per the information received, the fire broke out while they were stealing the gas, resulting in a massive explosion that damaged a school bus and other vehicles. The tanker driver fled the scene after the accident, while the police have arrested three other individuals. The police are currently investigating the case.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Bharat Mane, Police Inspector, Wakad Police Station, added, ”The accused have been charged under Sections 379, 407, 285, 336, 427, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, as well as Sections 3 and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act and Sections 3 and 4 of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908.”
