After chill in the air, Pune to experience warmer days ahead. Dr Anupam Kashyapi, Head, scientist F, weather and pollution monitoring unit from Indian Meteorological department Pune explains why why there is rise in minimum temperature and how long it will continue ??

Chill is expected to stay away from parts of central, southern Maharashtra, including Pune district and surrounding areas for the next 7-8 days.
Minimums have begun rising to above normal levels past couple of days. IMD models have suggested that night temperatures are expected to be on the higher side in parts of central, southern Maharashtra till at least November 22, due to consecutive western disturbances(pashchimi bikshobh) affecting the western Himalayan region and strong easterly wind flow over southern peninsula due to which northeast monsoon is active.
Western disturbance will cause an increase in minimum temperatures during the November 14,15, 16 period. Another western disturbance is expected to affect the western Himalayan region around November 17-18, which will keep minimums on the higher side. Whenever a western disturbance is passing, night temperatures rise. It however drops once the western disturbance passes away.

The current western disturbance is expected to cause clouding and isolated rains till as far as north Rajasthan , areas of Uttar Pradesh and northwest Madhya Pradesh. Simultaneous , strong easterly wind influence over peninsular India, will causemoisture incursion and clouding over areas of Maharashtra, even in Pune district and city. Clouding in the night causes higher minimum temperature as clouds prevent escape of long wave radiation from the earth’s surface into the atmosphere.

Around November 18-19, there may be interaction(confluence) between easterlies and westerlies even over central, northern parts of Maharashtra, viz. Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada. As a result, IMD,Pune has forecast for clouding over Pune city and district around November 19, 20,21 with chance of isolated very light rains over the district even in city . Therefore, night temperatures are predicted to be in the range of 16-18 degrees C in Pune till at least November 21-22.
