Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar on Friday shared a disturbing incident involving his 13-year-old daughter to highlight the growing menace of online exploitation of children. Speaking at the inauguration of Cyber Awareness Month 2025 at the Maharashtra State Police Headquarters in Mumbai, the actor revealed that a stranger once asked his daughter to send nude photos while she was playing an online video game.
“I want to tell you all a small incident that happened at my house a few months back,” Akshay said. “My daughter was playing an online video game with a stranger. In the middle of the game, she received a message asking if she was male or female. She replied female. The next message was: Can you send me nude pictures of yourself? My daughter immediately switched off the game and told my wife. This is how cybercrime begins,” he explained.
Calling it a serious threat, Akshay appealed to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to introduce a weekly “cyber period” in schools for students of Classes 7 to 10. “This crime is becoming bigger than street crime. It is very important to stop it. Every week, students must be taught about cyber safety,” he urged.
The actor emphasised that children today spend a large part of their lives online, making them vulnerable to predators. He said cyber education should be treated as a core subject to help students stay informed and protected in the rapidly evolving digital space.
The event was attended by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Maharashtra DGP Rashmi Shukla, senior IPS officer Iqbal Singh Chahal and actor Rani Mukerji, among others.
