Commuters on Borivali–Churchgate AC route treated to festive dance inside ladies’ coach

In a heartwarming Navratri moment, a group of women turned a Mumbai local train into a vibrant celebration of dance and devotion. While travelling in the ladies’ coach of a Borivali–Churchgate AC train on Thursday, September 25, the women broke into Garba on Gujarati folk songs, bringing festive cheer to fellow passengers.

The three women, all dressed in yellow—the symbolic colour of Navratri’s fourth day, dedicated to Goddess Kushmanda—swayed gracefully in sync with the music. Their joyful performance soon attracted cheers and claps from co-passengers, with a few even joining in the dance.

Mumbai’s local trains are often in the news for overcrowding, heated arguments, or unfortunate incidents. This rare sight of music and Garba steps, however, transformed an ordinary commute into a celebration of Navratri’s warmth, devotion, and togetherness.

For the Garba performers and the passengers alike, the moment summed up the festive spirit of Mumbai—where despite daily challenges, the city’s people find ways to celebrate life. Festivals like Navratri not only bring colour and joy but also reflect Mumbai’s unique culture of resilience, unity, and spontaneous celebration.
