In a remarkable incident from Uttar Pradesh, a 13-year-old girl demonstrated quick thinking and resourcefulness to protect herself and her young niece from a monkey attack, aided by the AI device Alexa.

In Basti district of Uttar Pradesh, Nikita, aged 13, was playing with her one-year-old niece when they were unexpectedly attacked by a monkey. With family members occupied in another part of the house, the girl promptly commanded Alexa, Amazon’s virtual voice assistant, to emit barking sounds to scare away the intruding monkey.

The situation unfolded while Nikita was visiting her sister’s home and playing with her niece near the kitchen on the first floor. Suddenly, a monkey entered the house through an open door left by departing guests, and proceeded to create chaos in the kitchen, alarming the girls. The frightened baby began to cry for her mother, further agitating the monkey. Acting swiftly and decisively, Nikita turned to the voice assistant device and instructed it to produce barking sounds. The loud barking noises emitted by Alexa successfully frightened the monkey away.

Nikita recounted the incident, stating, “A few guests visited our home and left the gate open. Monkeys entered the kitchen and started causing havoc. The child was scared, and so was I, but then I noticed Alexa and requested it to play the sound of a dog. Due to the barking sound, the monkeys were frightened and fled,” as reported by ANI.

This incident highlights the potential of technology, when coupled with quick thinking and innovative problem-solving, to avert potentially dangerous situations. It serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance, especially in areas prone to wildlife encounters.

In a tragic incident from November last year, a 10-year-old boy lost his life in a monkey attack in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar district. The severity of the attack resulted in the child’s tragic demise, underscoring the necessity of preventive measures and swift action in such situations.
