A brand-new Mahindra Thar worth nearly Rs 27 lakh crashed out of a Delhi showroom on Monday, September 8 when a buyer accidentally pressed the accelerator during a traditional ritual. The shocking incident took place at Mahindra’s Nirman Vihar showroom, where the vehicle was stationed on the first floor.

The buyer, 29-year-old Maani Pawar, had just taken delivery of the SUV and was preparing to perform a customary ritual before driving it home.

What Really Happened

According to officials, Pawar wanted to follow a common tradition performed by many new car owners, placing a lemon under the tire and gently driving over it. The gesture, often called a “totka,” is believed to ward off bad luck and bring prosperity.

While attempting to complete the ritual, Pawar was supposed to move the Thar slowly forward. However, she mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of easing the car, sending the SUV surging ahead at high speed.

The Totaka and the Crash

The Thar rammed through the glass wall of the showroom and fell straight onto the pavement below. Security footage and bystander videos quickly surfaced online, showing the overturned SUV lying on the road outside the showroom.

A showroom employee, Vikas, was also inside the car with Pawar at the time of the accident. The sudden crash left onlookers in shock as staff and locals rushed to help.

Injuries and Hospitalization

Fortunately, both Pawar and the employee escaped without major injuries. The vehicle’s airbags deployed instantly, cushioning the impact. They were rushed to nearby Malik Hospital, where doctors confirmed they had sustained only minor injuries. Both were discharged after receiving first aid.

Abhishek Dhania, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), confirmed the details of the incident. He said a medico-legal case (MLC) had been filed and identified the buyer as Maani Pawar, a resident of Indirapuram in Ghaziabad. He further added that Pawar and her husband, Pradeep, had purchased the Mahindra Thar Rox variant from the showroom.

The bizarre accident has gone viral on social media, with many users reacting to the unusual circumstances under which the crash happened. Several people commented on the irony of a ritual meant to bring good luck ending in such an unfortunate mishap.
