Viral Instagram video exposes gang fleecing motorists by faking tyre issues

A shocking scam has come to light on the old Mumbai-Pune Highway, where unsuspecting motorists are being targeted by fraudsters between Palaspe Phata and Chowk. According to reports, gangs on motorcycles mislead drivers by claiming that their car tyres have low air pressure, luring them to nearby puncture shops where they are cheated out of large sums of money.

How does the scam work?
As explained by a traveller who experienced the fraud, the trick begins when a biker approaches your vehicle at slow speed and signals that the tyre pressure is low. If ignored, another biker soon repeats the same warning, creating panic. Motorists are then persuaded to stop at a nearby puncture shop.

Once there, mechanics use sleight of hand to show reduced pressure and falsely claim multiple punctures. Victims are told their tyres have 10 to 15 punctures, with each repair charged heavily—often leaving them paying more than ₹1,000 for no real damage.

Public caution advised
Several users have shared similar experiences in the video’s comments, warning fellow travellers to stay alert. Authorities and social media users alike are urging motorists not to panic if strangers point out tyre problems, and to avoid immediately rushing to repair shops without verifying the issue themselves.
