Seema Purohit’s candid reflection on contentment over income strikes a chord with thousands online

An Indian woman’s heartfelt reflection on happiness and financial success has gone viral, resonating deeply with audiences across social media. Seema Purohit, currently based in Dubai, revealed in a video that despite earning a significantly higher salary today, she felt far more content during her early career days in Bengaluru with a modest income of just ₹18,000 per month.

The video, shared on Instagram with the caption “Life gave me lemons, and I’m here to rant about it,” has sparked a wave of responses, with many netizens calling it “painfully relatable.” In her emotional recount, Purohit recalls her first job in Bengaluru, saying: “Sirf ₹18,000 salary thi meri Bangalore mein, meri first job. Aur jab mujhe apni salary mili na main apne aap ko duniya ki sabse ameer ladki manti thi.”

She described how that limited paycheck was enough to cover her PG rent, indulge in street shopping, enjoy canteen meals, go clubbing every weekend, and even save a couple of thousand rupees at the end of the month. “Apni salary se khush, apni life se khush… I was the happiest woman on the planet,” she reflected.

In contrast, Purohit compared her present life in Dubai, where she earns a much higher salary, but confessed to feeling less fulfilled. “Aaj ₹18,000 se kai zyada kama rahi hu, Dubai mein hu, but still utni khush nahi hu jitni tab thi,” she admitted, questioning how financial growth sometimes diminishes life’s simple joys.

The sincerity of her words struck a chord with viewers, many of whom expressed their agreement in the comments. One user wrote, “Totally relatable! The feeling of belongingness, work-life balance, passion – ye sab kab fade ho jata he pats hi nai chalta.” Another commented, “Agreed… Dubai me to hu… lekin Dubai mere ko achchi nahi lagi.” Others echoed similar sentiments, calling her statement an honest reminder that true happiness often lies in simplicity rather than in material abundance.

The viral clip has reignited a familiar debate about the balance between financial success and emotional well-being. While higher earnings often promise comfort, Purohit’s reflection underscores that belongingness, balance, and passion may define happiness far more than paychecks ever could.
