Weather Alert: Cyclone ‘Shakti’ to Bring Heavy Rainfall Across Maharashtra on October 6; Yellow Alert for Several Districts
The weather across Maharashtra is set to take a sharp turn as Cyclone Shakti, developing over the Arabian Sea, is expected to impact several regions with moderate to heavy rainfall starting Monday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for five districts in Vidarbha, warning of intense showers accompanied by thunderstorms.
After a brief dry spell at the start of October, rainfall activity is likely to resume across the state. The IMD has predicted light to moderate rain in Konkan, Marathwada, and Vidarbha regions over the next three days due to the cyclonic circulation.
In Mumbai and surrounding suburbs, partly cloudy skies with light to moderate showers are expected. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to remain around 30°C and 24°C, respectively. Rain intensity is expected to increase again by Tuesday in Thane and Palghar districts.
Western Maharashtra, including Solapur, has witnessed a rise in temperature due to the temporary dry conditions, but rainfall activity is expected to revive from October 8.
In North Maharashtra, districts such as Dhule, Nandurbar, and Nashik may experience thunderstorms with light to moderate rainfall, prompting a Yellow Alert for Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Marathwada, which had seen a retreat of rains, is likely to receive fresh showers in all eight districts. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has been placed under a Yellow Alert for October 7, with isolated heavy rain expected in some talukas of Dharashiv.
The eastern Vidarbha region, including Nagpur, Chandrapur, Bhandara, Gondia, and Gadchiroli, will witness increased rainfall activity on Monday. However, conditions are expected to stabilize by October 7, as the cyclone moves away and rainfall intensity gradually reduces.
