Pune, 24 September 2025 – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a fresh spell of heavy rain across Maharashtra over the coming days. A low-pressure system forming over the Bay of Bengal is moving westward, bringing widespread showers to several regions of the state.

Yellow and Orange Alerts Issued

On 25 September 2025, a yellow alert has been issued for 21 districts of Maharashtra, while Yavatmal, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli are under an orange alert due to the likelihood of very heavy rainfall.

According to IMD Mumbai Observatory, the intensity of rainfall will increase between 26 and 29 September, impacting Konkan, Western Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha.

Region-wise Weather Forecast

  • Mumbai & Konkan: Mumbai city and suburbs are likely to experience cloudy skies with moderate showers at isolated places. Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts may see heavy rainfall, all placed under a yellow alert.
  • Western MaharashtraPune, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, and Kolhapur could face thunderstorms with heavy to very heavy showers in some areas. All five districts are on yellow alert.
  • North MaharashtraNashik, Ahmednagar, Jalgaon, Dhule, and Nandurbar may witness moderate rainfall with thunder, though no official alert has been issued.
  • Marathwada: Out of eight districts, Osmanabad, Latur, Parbhani, Hingoli, and Nanded are under yellow alert with a forecast of thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds.
  • Vidarbha: Apart from the orange alert districts (Yavatmal, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli), the remaining districts – Buldhana, Akola, Washim, Amravati, Wardha, Nagpur, Bhandara, and Gondia – are under yellow alert. Eastern Vidarbha may see extremely heavy rainfall in some parts.

IMD Caution for Citizens

The IMD has urged residents to remain alert, avoid waterlogged areas, and follow safety guidelines, especially in districts under orange alert. With the system intensifying, rainfall activity across Maharashtra is expected to peak in the coming three days.
