Weather Alert: Heavy Rains Forecast on Navratri Day One, IMD Issues Yellow Alert for 26 Maharashtra Districts
Pune, September 21, 2025 – The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for 26 districts in Maharashtra on the very first day of Navratri, warning of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. The downpour is expected to disrupt festive celebrations across the state.
According to the IMD, widespread rainfall with lightning and thunderstorm activity was recorded in several regions, causing damage to crops and affecting farmers.
On September 22, the weather department has predicted intense showers across Konkan, Central Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha, urging citizens to remain cautious.
Rainfall Forecast by Region
- Konkan & Mumbai Region: Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg may witness light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds.
- Western Maharashtra: Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, and ghat areas will likely receive moderate rainfall, while Solapur is expected to face heavy showers with strong winds.
- Marathwada: Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Beed, Latur, and Dharashiv are under heavy rain warning, whereas Jalauna, Parbhani, Hingoli, and Nanded may see light to moderate rainfall.
- North Maharashtra: Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Nashik, and Ahmednagar districts are likely to receive intense rainfall with thunder and lightning.
- Vidarbha: Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, and Washim may experience light showers, while Gadchiroli and Yavatmal are expected to see heavy thunderstorms.
Citizens Urged to Stay Alert
The IMD has emphasized that almost the entire state could witness rainfall on September 22, with yellow alerts extended to nearly 30 districts. Residents have been advised to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel, and strictly follow weather department advisories.
The heavy rainfall warning comes at a crucial time during the Navratri festivities, raising concerns about outdoor celebrations and ongoing agricultural activities.
