Weather Alert: Maharashtra Faces Six Days of Heavy Rain, Experts Warn of Flood Risk
Pune, August 13, 2025: Maharashtra is set to experience an intense spell of monsoon showers between August 13 and 16, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing heavy to very heavy rain alerts for 17 districts. The downpour is expected to be accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds in several regions.
High Alert in Konkan
Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts have been placed on high alert. On August 15 and 16, these districts are likely to witness very heavy rainfall, thunder, lightning, and winds gusting up to 40 km/h. Authorities have advised residents to avoid stepping out unless necessary during the long weekend, as waterlogging is expected in low-lying areas.
Mumbai, Thane to See Increased Rainfall
Mumbai and Thane, which have been receiving light to moderate showers in recent days, are forecast to see heavier rain over the next two days. The IMD has urged residents to plan their travel carefully due to the risk of traffic disruptions. Pune, Kolhapur, and the ghats of Satara may see heavy to very heavy rain on August 16, with orange alerts issued in some locations.
Vidarbha, North Maharashtra, and Marathwada Updates
In Vidarbha, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain on August 13 and 14. Palghar, Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Nashik, Pune, and Kolhapur are expected to get light to moderate showers. In Marathwada, districts including Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, and Nanded may experience heavy rainfall in isolated areas over the next few days.
The IMD has advised caution, especially in flood-prone and hilly regions, and warned of possible travel disruptions due to waterlogging and reduced visibility.
