Pune, August 18, 2025: After a dry spell earlier this month, Maharashtra is once again witnessing torrential rains over the past few days. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange alerts across several regions, warning of extremely heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours.

The IMD has cautioned citizens to avoid stepping outdoors for the next three hours as rainfall intensity is expected to increase further. A fresh low-pressure system has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal near the Odisha coast, leading to widespread showers across the state.

According to the forecast, Konkan and ghat regions are under a red alert, while Marathwada and Vidarbha are expected to receive heavy rainfall under an orange alert. Districts like Satara, Raigad, Pune, and Kolhapur have been placed under red alert, whereas Mumbai, Thane, Parbhani, Nanded, Palghar, Aurangabad, Beed, and Jalna remain under orange alert.

Mumbai has recorded continuous rainfall for the third consecutive day, with 60–100 mm of rain in several parts overnight. Suburban train services on the Central and Harbour lines were delayed due to waterlogging. The IMD has warned of very heavy rainfall in Raigad and Mumbai in the next three hours.

In Jalgaon’s Parola taluka, cloudburst-like rainfall led to severe damage. A bridge at Palaskheda village was washed away, cutting off connectivity between nearby villages. Floodwaters entered homes, shops, and fields in Chikhli, Mhasve, and Shelave villages, damaging crops and property.

Meanwhile, two days of heavy rainfall in Amravati district have boosted water storage in major dams. The Upper Wardha Dam, the largest in western Vidarbha, recorded a six percent rise in water levels, increasing from 52% to 58% compared to the same period last year.

Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious as rainfall continues to disrupt normal life across the state.
