Pune/Mumbai, May 29:
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for six districts in Maharashtra as monsoon rains continue to impact the state. After days of heavy downpour, the weather department has predicted light to moderate rainfall over the next four days across most parts of the state, bringing partial relief to residents.
According to the IMD, the monsoon arrived nearly 12 days earlier than usual this year, triggering intense rainfall in several regions, including Mumbai and Pune. For the past five days, torrential rains disrupted daily life, but rainfall activity has now slightly decreased.
An orange alert has been issued for Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg in the Konkan region, and Amravati, Bhandara, Chandrapur, and Gondia in the Vidarbha region, warning of continued heavy rainfall.
Additionally, a yellow alert has been announced for several other districts including Raigad, Jalgaon, Pune Ghat regions, Kolhapur Ghat, Satara Ghat, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Akola, Buldhana, Gadchiroli, Nagpur, Wardha, Washim, and Yavatmal, indicating the possibility of light showers.
Authorities have advised residents and travelers, especially in hilly and ghat areas, to stay alert due to the risk of slippery roads and reduced visibility. The IMD continues to monitor the evolving weather pattern and will update alerts as necessary.
