Pune, May 28 – After two days of heavy downpour that disrupted life in several areas of Pune, the intensity of rainfall has now reduced, offering a brief respite to residents. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a Yellow Alert remains in effect for Pune over the next two days, while Konkan is expected to experience continued heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Rain Subsides in Pune, Temperature to Rise Slightly

With the monsoon officially arriving in Pune on Monday, the city experienced relentless rainfall on both Monday and Tuesday. As per IMD predictions, the intensity is expected to lessen from Wednesday, giving some relief to Puneites. Temperatures are also expected to rise marginally — maximum temperature at 28°C and minimum at 22°C today, with a generally cloudy sky and light to moderate showers likely.

Monsoon to Cover Entire Maharashtra by Today

The monsoon, which entered Mumbai, Pune, and Solapur districts with force earlier this week, is likely to spread across the entire state by today (Wednesday, May 28), the IMD stated.

Heavy Rains in Konkan, Lower Intensity Elsewhere

A low-pressure system formed off the Odisha coast has impacted weather conditions. As a result, rainfall across most of Maharashtra — except Konkan — is expected to weaken between May 30 and 31. From today onward, rainfall intensity in Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada is likely to reduce, with only light showers forecasted.

Yellow Alert has been issued for the ghat regions of Pune, while Sindhudurg district is under a Red Alert with very heavy to extremely heavy rain predicted. Citizens are advised to step out only if necessary.

Brief Pause in Mumbai-Palghar Rainfall

Rainfall in Mumbai and Palghar is also expected to decrease from Wednesday, but heavy rainfall is forecasted in other parts of Konkan until May 31. Authorities have urged residents in these areas to take necessary precautions.

Monsoon Progressing Rapidly

The southwest monsoon made a swift entry into Mumbai, Pune, and Solapur on Monday and remained steady in these regions on Tuesday. The IMD expects it to advance further into the central Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Maharashtra, and parts of Karnataka within the next 2–3 days.

Important Advisory for Tourists

In light of the monsoon, the Forest Department has announced that Sinhagad Fort will remain closed on Thursday, May 29, for a government disaster preparedness inspection. With the onset of rains, the fort typically attracts thousands of trekkers and tourists. Given the threat of landslides, the administration has barred entry through Kalyan Darwaza, Atkarwadi, and foot trails for the day. Visitors are advised to avoid planning treks to the fort on Thursday.
