New Delhi: Amid circulating social media posts claiming a change in Tatkal and Premium Tatkal ticket booking timings, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has issued a clarification stating that no changes have been made to the current booking schedule.

IRCTC Denies Change in Tatkal Booking Timings

Several viral messages claimed revised Tatkal booking timings for AC and Non-AC classes. However, IRCTC has officially confirmed that the Tatkal and Premium Tatkal ticket booking timings remain unchanged.

“No such change in timings is currently proposed in the Tatkal or Premium Tatkal booking timings for AC or Non-AC classes,” the IRCTC said in a statement.

It also added that misleading posts are being circulated and urged passengers not to believe in rumours.

Tatkal Ticket Booking Timings (As Per Indian Railways)

As per the existing rules on the Indian Railways website:

  • For AC Classes (2A/3A/CC/EC/3E): Tatkal booking opens at 10:00 am, one day in advance (excluding the date of journey).
  • For Non-AC Classes (SL/FC/2S): Booking opens at 11:00 am, one day before the journey.
  • Tatkal tickets are not available for First AC (1A) and Executive Classes.

For example, if a train is scheduled to depart on April 14, Tatkal booking for that train will begin on April 13 at 10:00 am for AC classes and 11:00 am for Non-AC classes.

Tatkal Ticket Rules and Charges

  • Tatkal quota tickets can be booked for a maximum of four passengers per PNR.
  • The Tatkal booking facility is available between source or remote stations and the destination stations that have Tatkal quota allocation.
  • No travel concessions are applicable on Tatkal bookings.
  • Tatkal charges are levied as a percentage of the base fare:
    • 10% of basic fare for Second Class.
    • 30% of basic fare for all other classes, subject to minimum and maximum limits.

IRCTC’s Advisory to Passengers

IRCTC reiterated that no updates have been issued regarding booking window changes and requested users to rely on official platforms for verified information. The booking timings for agents also remain unchanged.

Conclusion

Passengers are advised to avoid falling prey to fake news and social media rumours. The Tatkal ticket booking timings continue to be 10 am for AC classes and 11 am for Non-AC classes, a rule effective since June 15, 2015.
