E-commerce companies have nearly completed the days of delivering products within one or two days. We are now entering a new era of rapid commerce, where you can receive your orders in just 10 minutes after placing them.

Recently, Swiggy Instamart’s CEO, Sriharsha Majety, mentioned that it might sound strange, but netizens typically order the most bedsheets on rapid commerce platforms. Speaking at the CNBC-TV18 Global Leadership Summit, Majety said, “What do you think people order the most in 10 minutes? If I told you bedsheets are the most ordered items on Instamart, who would believe it? But it’s true that bedsheets are the highest ordered items for rapid delivery on our platform.”

He mentioned that previously, batteries were the most searched items, but now there’s been a significant rise in bedsheet orders. The distinction between quick commerce and traditional e-commerce is becoming less clear, as other e-commerce companies are also shifting toward faster delivery options.

“Our company can’t be everywhere, but other players are entering this space, creating competition for quick delivery,” he stated. Discussing his challenges as a CEO, Majety noted, “From the beginning, my biggest challenge has been to bring everyone along with us. As we progressed, this task became more complex, but uniting people has become the key to our success. It’s not always easy, but as the company expands, it forms the bedrock of our growth.”

Majety emphasized that Swiggy and Zomato aren’t the only competitors in the market. “When we launched Swiggy in 2014, there were over 19 competitors. Today, the quick commerce market has surged to $5.5 billion (around Rs 50,000 crore). Initially focused on grocery delivery, it has now expanded to include electronics, clothing, and sports gear,” he explained.
