WhatsApp’s New Feature Lets You Link Facebook to Your Profile — Easier Connections and Better Identity Verification Coming Soon
WhatsApp is once again expanding its feature set to make social interactions smoother and more connected across Meta platforms. In a move that reflects Meta’s broader goal of seamless integration across its apps, WhatsApp is now testing a new feature that will allow users to add a direct link to their Facebook profiles from their WhatsApp accounts. This upcoming feature aims to simplify how users present their social identity online, while also helping others connect and verify each other more easily.
Currently in beta testing, this feature lets users go into their WhatsApp settings and directly link their Facebook profile to their WhatsApp account. Once linked, the Facebook profile will be displayed within the contact info section of the user’s WhatsApp profile. This means that anyone viewing your WhatsApp profile will be able to visit your Facebook profile with just a single tap. It’s a small but significant update that could improve trust and connectivity across personal and professional interactions.
The process will work much like the Instagram linking option that’s already available on WhatsApp. Users will also have control over who can see their Facebook link by customizing their privacy settings—whether it’s visible to all contacts or just a select few. Importantly, this Facebook linking feature will be entirely optional and won’t affect the way other parts of WhatsApp function. WhatsApp has clarified that it won’t be turned on by default, giving users the choice to activate it if they wish.
Once users choose to link their accounts, they’ll also have the option to verify the link through Meta’s Account Center. Verification will confirm that the WhatsApp and Facebook accounts belong to the same individual. After verification, a small Facebook icon will appear next to the user’s name on their WhatsApp profile, clearly marking it as a verified connection. If left unverified, the Facebook link will still appear, but simply as a clickable URL, without the verification badge.
This update isn’t just about convenience—it also brings an extra layer of safety to the platform. With Facebook links now being part of the WhatsApp profile, it’ll be easier for users to distinguish between genuine and fake profiles. This could prove useful in reducing impersonation, especially in an era where online scams and identity-related fraud are on the rise. Until now, verified social media links were only shown on WhatsApp Business accounts, but this new update will make the feature available to regular users as well.
Android beta users have already started receiving access to this new linking feature, and many have confirmed its presence in the latest updates. Although still in the testing phase, this indicates that a wider rollout may be just around the corner.
In addition to Facebook profile linking, iPhone users have something new to look forward to as well. WhatsApp has introduced an in-app translation feature that currently supports 21 languages, including Hindi, English, Arabic, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese. With this update, users will be able to translate both personal and group chat messages directly within the app. Before using the feature, users will need to download the relevant language pack. Once installed, the translation tool works even without an internet connection, making it useful for travel and multilingual communication.
