A viral video of a baby elephant taking fruit from a roadside stall sparks delight, debate, and thousands of hearts online

A baby elephant’s sweet craving has taken over the internet, quite literally. A now-viral video posted on X (formerly Twitter) by retired Indian Forest Service officer Susanta Nanda captures the delightful moment when a curious calf pauses mid-walk to grab a quick snack from a roadside fruit cart.

In the video, a herd of elephants is seen casually strolling down a tree-lined road. One among them adorably nicknamed Chotu, makes an unscheduled pit stop. Using its trunk, the baby elephant gently approaches a fruit-laden cart, catching the cart owner off guard. What followed melted hearts across the internet.

A woman, possibly a customer at the stall, is seen kindly handing Chotu a piece of sugarcane. The baby jumbo accepts it politely, displaying gentle, almost human-like patience waiting rather than snatching. “A quick snacks break for Chotu. Cute,” Nanda captioned the video.

The clip, with nearly 30,000 views, quickly stirred an emotional response from netizens. One comment read, “All baby elephants should have unrestricted access to food, anytime, anywhere. If it isn’t the law, it should be.”

Another admired the woman’s calm gesture: “Love how the lady feeds the baby.”

However, amid the collective “aww”s, a few viewers raised concerns about the setting. “Wild animals belong in the forest, not walking city streets,” one user noted. Another added, “What’s cute about elephants walking on concrete roads? Let them roam free where they belong.”

Still, many couldn’t resist Chotu’s charm. “Chottu is so cute!” one user gushed.

Another joked, “Who will pay?” capturing the light-hearted spirit of the video.

While the clip celebrates a tender human-animal interaction, it also gently nudges viewers to reflect on the complex realities of wildlife wandering through human spaces, raising questions about coexistence, conservation, and care. For now, though, Chotu’s snack break remains a small, precious moment of peace in a big, complicated world.
