Actor Vivek Oberoi’s entrepreneurial journey highlights his transition from Bollywood to running a highly successful education loan business worth Rs 3,400 crore, while embracing simplicity and social impact

Vivek Oberoi, best known for his roles in Bollywood hits like Company, Saathiya, and Krrish 3, has quietly built a parallel career as a successful entrepreneur. The actor, who made his cinematic debut in 2002, now runs an education loan business valued at Rs 3,400 crore.

At a recent event in Mumbai, Vivek revealed how his startup, which focuses on education fee financing, grew from a small venture into a massive enterprise. “We reached over 12,000 schools, colleges, and universities through a B2B network. Eventually, we connected directly to our customers over 4.5 million students and owned that data. That made the company very valuable,” he said. The company, which operates with a focus on non-collateralized loans, was recently valued at $400 million.

One of the defining factors of Vivek’s startup is its innovative offerings, such as zero-interest payment plans. Despite being a rare model in the lending business, he explained that his team made it work financially while creating significant value. Vivek also credited the success of the business to the way he aligned his personal brand with the company’s mission to create positive social impact.

Vivek’s transition to entrepreneurship was born out of challenges he faced in Bollywood, where he sometimes felt sidelined. He described business as his “Plan B,” allowing him to continue pursuing acting as a passion without compromising his values.

In addition to his hands-on approach to leadership personally attending meetings instead of delegating them. Vivek has fostered team spirit by adopting fiscal discipline. While traveling for business, he flies economy class with his team, reserving first-class travel only for personal trips. This, he says, builds team morale and a sense of shared purpose.

Reflecting on his journey, Vivek shared how entrepreneurship helped him overcome setbacks and regain control over his life. “Business gave me the freedom to live on my terms,” he said.

Despite his entrepreneurial success, Vivek has not abandoned acting. He was last seen in Rohit Shetty’s web series Indian Police Force, starring alongside Sidharth Malhotra and Shilpa Shetty. Balancing dual careers, Vivek continues to show that passion and innovation can coexist.

Whether it’s flying economy to boost team morale or reshaping the education lending space, Vivek Oberoi’s story is a unique blend of humility, resilience, and forward thinking.
