She booked an autorickshaw from Horamavu to Thanisandra using the ride-hailing app ‘Namma Yatri.’

A woman leaped from a moving auto rickshaw on Thursday night in Bengaluru to escape a drunk driver, as reported by her husband. He mentioned that she had requested the autorickshaw through the ride-hailing app ‘Namma Yatri’ for her journey from Horamavu to Thanisandra.

“Namma Yatri Auto Issue! My wife booked an auto from Horamavu to Thanisandra, Bangalore, but the driver was drunk and took her towards the wrong location near Hebbal. Despite repeatedly asking him to stop, he didn’t listen, forcing her to jump out of the moving auto. The biggest shortcoming of ‘Namma Yatri’ service is that there is no customer support. It asks us to “wait for 24 hours.” How is it possible to wait 24 hours in an emergency? How is the safety of the woman?,” says the victim’s husband’s post on X.

The post has gained attention online and Namma Yatri has issued a statement. “Hi Azhar, we’re sorry to hear about the inconvenience caused to your wife, and we hope she’s doing fine now. Please DM us the ride details, and we’ll make sure to look into this promptly.”

Namma Yatri is a locally developed, community-focused ride-hailing service aimed at addressing the transportation requirements of commuters in India. It was established to offer a cost-effective, transparent, and efficient option compared to traditional ride-sharing applications, with an emphasis on empowering both drivers and riders.

In contrast to standard platforms, Namma Yatri removes intermediaries by facilitating direct connections between commuters and auto-rickshaw drivers.

He urged the police to treat his complaint with the utmost seriousness and to take decisive action against the offenders. The Bengaluru police promptly reacted and initiated an investigation.
