Stranded without food, water, or washrooms for five hours in freezing cold, woman appeals to PM Modi

A shocking incident of alleged inhumane treatment of 56 Indian tourists in Georgia has surfaced online after one of the travellers shared her ordeal on Instagram, tagging Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar while urging the Indian government to intervene.

The woman, identified as Dhruvi Patel, claimed that despite carrying valid visa documents, the group was stopped at the Armenia–Georgia border and subjected to harsh conditions for over five hours. She alleged that their passports were seized, no explanation was given, and they were forced to sit on the pavement in the freezing cold without access to food, water, or washrooms.

Patel further stated that the officials treated them “like criminals,” even recording videos of the tourists while preventing them from filming their own experience. According to her, authorities did not even properly examine their documents before declaring their visas invalid. She described the ordeal as “shameful and unacceptable.”

Her post has sparked anger on social media, with several users accusing Georgia of discrimination against Indians. Some recounted similar humiliating experiences in the past, with one commenter noting, “When I visited in 2019, they looked at me as if I were a criminal. Luckily, they let me through.” Others have openly advised fellow Indians to avoid travelling to Georgia altogether, questioning why people continue to visit a country where such treatment is reportedly common.
