Woman stabbed to death in Chakan over one-sided love affair

Chakan, Khed Taluka: A 21-year-old woman was brutally murdered late last night in the industrial area of Chakan, located within the jurisdiction of Ambethan village, Khed Taluka. The victim, identified as Prachi Vijay Mane (21) from Urun Islampur, Walwa taluka in Sangli district, succumbed to multiple stab wounds inflicted by a knife. The primary suspect, Aviraj Ramchandra Kharat, 22, also a resident of Walwa taluka, has been arrested in connection with the crime.
Incident details and arrest
According to police sources, the gruesome incident took place around 11:15 PM on Sunday. The suspect, who was reportedly enraged by Mane’s refusal to marry him, attacked her with a knife, stabbing her in the neck and stomach. After committing the murder, Kharat fled the scene. Senior Police Inspector Shailesh Gaikwad confirmed that the suspect was apprehended within twelve hours of the crime.
Search and capture
In the wake of the murder, a police team led by Inspector Gaikwad, and including officers Adhari, Sanap, Bhosure, Hanmante, and various constables, conducted an intensive search in the suspect’s native village of Bahe. The team also reviewed nearby CCTV footage and performed technical analysis to trace Kharat’s whereabouts.
Information about the suspect’s movements led to a strategic trap being set up on the Satara-Karad highway. The police, who pursued Kharat for ten to fifteen kilometers, managed to apprehend him after he attempted to evade capture at high speeds. During the arrest, police seized three mobile phones and the motorcycle used by the suspect.
Ongoing investigation
The investigation, conducted under the oversight of Police Commissioner Vinaykumar Chaube and other senior officers, has involved a detailed and coordinated effort. Key figures in the investigation include Assistant Police Commissioner Shashikant Mahavarkar, Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandeep Doifode, and Assistant Police Commissioner Dr Vishal Hire.
Background of the crime
Mane and Kharat were reportedly in a romantic relationship two to three years before the incident. After Mane began working in Chakan and ceased contact with Kharat, he reportedly grew violent. Mane, who was working at a private company and living in Ambethan with a friend, was contacted by Kharat on her mobile phone. The suspect lured her to an open area, where he assaulted her before fleeing on his motorcycle.
