In a surprising turn of events, Ashish Jadhav, a life sentence prisoner from Yerwada open jail, voluntarily surrendered himself to the authorities following persuasion from his family members. Jadhav had escaped from Yerwada jail after learning about his mother’s critical health condition.

The superintendent of Yerawada Open Jail disclosed that Jadhav had been visibly distressed upon hearing about his mother’s heart attack in the preliminary investigations. In a bid to be with his ailing mother, Jadhav traveled to his relative’s home in Tuljapur, Solapur district, by truck. Early on Wednesday morning, he arrived at the Swargate bus terminal and contacted his father.

Upon receiving the call, Jadhav’s parents played a crucial role in convincing him to return to the prison. He voluntarily returned around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday. However, authorities had already been alerted, leading to a team’s prompt arrival at the jail to detain Jadhav in connection with the registered escape case.

Officials had visited Jadhav’s house the night before, but he was not present at that time. The parents were advised to persuade Jadhav to return to jail and were instructed to contact the police if they became aware of his whereabouts.

The superintendent of Yerawada Open Jail expressed uncertainty about the exact time of Jadhav’s mother’s heart attack. Jadhav’s mother and sister had visited him in the open jail on October 17, and it remains unclear how he learned about his mother’s illness.

Notably, Jadhav had the means to communicate with his family using the smartphone card feature, but he had not disclosed his mother’s heart condition to the jail authorities.

The superintendent regretted the lack of information, stating that if Jadhav had informed them, they could have assisted him in reaching out to his family during the difficult time.
