Pimpri: In a significant step towards spreading awareness about India’s Constitution, the first-ever Samvidhan Bhavan in the country is set to be built in Pimpri-Chinchwad. The municipal authorities have kickstarted the process by issuing a tender worth ₹120 crore for the project.

The brainchild of BJP MLA Mahesh Landge, this Bhavan, along with a Vipassana Center, will be established on land provided by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA). The land has now officially been handed over to the municipal administration for construction.

The project has been approved in two phases, with tenders already issued. The first phase is valued at ₹2.53 crore, while the second phase, a larger undertaking, is budgeted at ₹117 crore. In total, the project cost comes to around ₹120 crore.

Reflecting on the journey, MLA Mahesh Landge shared, “Back in 2019, we started pushing for the Samvidhan Bhavan through the Pimpri-Chinchwad New Town Development Authority (PCNTDA). However, after PCNTDA was merged with PMRDA, the project got delayed, especially during the Mahavikas Aghadi government’s term. When the Mahayuti government took charge in 2022, we managed to pick up the pace. We also sought the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister’s help to finalize the land transfer from PMRDA to the municipal corporation. Now, with the tender out, we’ve reached an important milestone.”

Mahesh Landge expressed his pride in bringing this vision to reality:

“Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s thoughts have always inspired me. I wanted to create a place where people can learn about our Constitution and even study the constitutions of democratic nations around the world. We need spaces that foster education and awareness, and an international-level library is also part of this plan. It’s a proud moment for Pimpri-Chinchwad as we begin this significant project.”

With the tender now open, the Samvidhan Bhavan is closer to becoming a reality, a monumental step towards honoring the core values of Indian democracy and spreading knowledge about the nation’s constitutional heritage.
