Pune, 05 June 2026
On the occasion of World Environment Day, the 5th Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Pune, organized a large-scale tree plantation drive to promote environmental conservation and reaffirm its commitment towards a greener and more sustainable future.
The initiative was undertaken in response to the nationwide plantation campaign envisioned by Hon’ble Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah and in compliance with the directions of NDRF Headquarters.

As part of the campaign, a total of 1,500 saplings were planted across Battalion Headquarters Pune, RRC Mumbai, New Camp Bambavi (Mumbai), RRC NPP Palghar and TPL Nagpur. Indigenous and environmentally significant species such as Neem, Peepal, Karanj, Mango, Amla, Jamun, Arjun and Tamarind were selected to enhance biodiversity and strengthen ecological balance.
Addressing the officers and rescuers on the occasion, Saroj Kumar, Commandant (CCD), 5th Battalion NDRF, Pune, emphasized that trees are not merely a part of nature but the foundation of human existence. He highlighted the crucial role of trees in environmental conservation, water preservation, clean air and climate balance. He urged all personnel to actively participate in plantation activities and take responsibility for the protection and nurturing of the saplings. He further stated that every sapling planted today will contribute towards a safer, greener and more sustainable future for generations to come.

Officers and rescuers enthusiastically participated in the plantation drive and reiterated their commitment towards environmental stewardship. Necessary arrangements have also been made to ensure the protection, watering and maintenance of the saplings so that they can grow into healthy trees in the years ahead.
The 5th Battalion NDRF continues to play an active role not only in disaster response and risk reduction but also in environmental conservation, community awareness and sustainable development initiatives.
