7 Dead, 50 Injured in Stampede at Baba Siddhnath Temple, Jehanabad
Bihar, 12 August: A stampede at the Baba Siddhnath Temple in Jehanabad, Bihar, has claimed seven lives, with 50 others feared injured. The incident occurred after a fight broke out between a flower seller and devotees, leading to a chaotic situation.
Jehanabad District Magistrate Alankrita Pandey confirmed that the situation is now under control and that authorities are closely monitoring developments. “At least seven people died, and nine others were injured in the stampede at Baba Siddhnath Temple in Makhdumpur. We are monitoring everything, and the situation is now under control,” Pandey told ANI.
This tragedy comes just over a month after a similar incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras on July 2, where a stampede during a religious gathering claimed 121 lives, primarily women. The Hathras stampede was one of the deadliest in recent years, with victims suffocating as bodies piled up.
Manoj, an eyewitness at the Baba Siddhnath Temple, recounted the terrifying experience, saying, “The brawl between the flower seller and the people triggered the stampede. Many of us were trapped, and I was pulled out just in time. The police were not present at the spot; they were stationed along the route. I’ve suffered injuries too.”
The incident has raised concerns about crowd management and the role of authorities in preventing such tragedies.
