99 lakh women & over 42 lakh senior citizens avail MSRTC bus service

Pune: The Mahila Samman Yojana of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) is getting a good response from women travellers as more than  99 lakh women have travelled by buses till the end of July 2023. As per information, the state government gives a 50 per cent discount to women travelling in MSRTC buses.

Additionally, the MSRTC’s ‘Amrit Jyeshtha Nagrik’ scheme is also getting a good response from senior citizens as well. As per information, over 42 lakh senior citizens, above 75 years of age, have travelled for free under the ‘Amrit Jyeshtha Nagrik’ Yojana.

Both these schemes have increased the passenger numbers travelling in MSRTC buses.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Kailas Patil, Deputy Manager, MSRTC Pune, said “MSRTC’s ‘Amrit Jyeshtha Nagrik’ and ‘Mahila Sanman’ Yojanas are getting a good response from Pune division. Under these two schemes, a large number of citizens have taken advantage, making it a popular means of transportation.”

As per information, the number of women travellers in MSRTC buses till the end of July 2023 is 99,19,236 & the number of senior citizens who travelled in MSRTC buses till the end of July 2023 is 42,19,785.

It is worthy to note that a 50% discount on ticket fares is given by MSRTC to senior citizens between 60 to 75 years of age. Senior citizens can also travel at discounted rates by showing their identity cards.
