Delhi-Mumbai Expressway Set for Completion by October 2025: Nitin Gadkari
The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, set to be the longest Greenfield highway in India, is on track to be completed by October 2025. This update was shared with Parliament on Wednesday by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari.
In his written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Gadkari explained that the 1,386-kilometer expressway, including spurs, is being built in 53 packages. As of June 2024, 26 of these packages have been completed, with 82 percent of the work finished and 1,136 kilometers already constructed.
“The revised scheduled completion date is October 2025,” Gadkari confirmed. He highlighted that the expressway will enhance connectivity between major economic centers across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.
The new highway is expected to significantly reduce travel time, potentially cutting it by up to 50 percent to the connected destinations. Additionally, the distance between Delhi and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) in Mumbai will be shortened by approximately 180 kilometers.
In a separate response, Gadkari also noted that as of June 30, 2024, there are 983 operational user fee plazas on National Highways.
