Pune: Kharadi Residents Seek PMC's Attention On Pothole-Ridden Dhole Patil Farm And Blue Berry Road
Residents of Kharadi have written to the Pune Municipal Corporation bringing their attention to the pathetic condition of the Dhole Patil Farm and Blue Berry Roads in Kharadi, specifically the stretch between Urban Nirvana Society Co-operative Housing Society, Blue Berry Society-Alcon Society,Mio Palazzo Society Gulmohar Queenstown,Forest County and Grecia.
C A Ghanshyam Tiwari, a resident of Urban Nirvana told Pune Pulse that the roads are riddled with potholes of various sizes due to the recent pipeline, road work (which is going on for more than a year and still in incomplete stage), making it extremely difficult and dangerous for residents to commute on a day-to-day basis. The entire stretch between Urban Nirvana Society till Mio Palazzo society, Gulmohar Queenstown and Forest County entrance is in a state of neglect and abandonment. Some potholes are so large and deep that they have the potential to cause accidents and huge damages to vehicles passing by vehicles. It is a particularly dangerous and life-threatening experience for commuters driving two-wheelers as the vehicle can skid anytime causing major injury to them apart from financial loss and in extreme cases fatal as well. The roads are in such a state that small children using school buses suffer with continuous bumpy rides and the chances of injury to them is very high.
Tiwari further stated, “To make it worse a small patch of land at the BlueBerry Junction (which is a very crowded junction specially during morning and evening) is blocked by the alleged resident claiming it to be owned by them, choking the junction, resulting in a lot of traffic congestion. Kharadi has developed into a major IT Hub in the last 10-15 years where more than 50,000 people commute to their offices from different parts of Pune. The situation of the road is a threat to these commuters as well. It is to be noted that Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) charges the property tax from every residential or commercial unit be it an independent house or a housing society as soon as it is formed / completed and the amount of annual property tax ranges between Rs. 8,000 to Rs. 18,000 per unit or flat per annum depending upon the area and occupancy (self-occupied or rented). Considering the amount of property tax paid by the citizens in the vicinity, the basic facilities provided by PMC in the area are incomparable. Looking at the condition of the roads in Kharadi it does not look like we are living in a developed city where even after paying heavy property taxes/ road tax we still have to live in this inhuman condition.”
