India Advises Extra Caution if Travelling to UK Amid Violent Riots
The Indian High Commission in London issues a travel advisory following anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim protests sparked by a fatal stabbing incident in Southport.
The High Commission of India in London has issued an advisory urging Indian nationals travelling to the UK to “exercise caution and stay vigilant” due to violent protests across the country. These protests erupted following the fatal stabbing of three girls at a dance workshop in Southport, a town in northwest England.

The advisory from the High Commission emphasizes that it is “closely monitoring the situation” and advises Indian nationals to “follow local news and advisories issued by local security agencies and to avoid areas where protests are underway.”
British authorities are currently grappling with the widespread unrest that began a week ago after the knife attack at the children’s dance class. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has attributed the violence to far-right agitators and the spread of disinformation on social media. He has vowed “swift criminal sanctions” against those responsible for inciting violence.
According to international news reports, nearly 400 people have been arrested since the violence began. Those arrested have started appearing in magistrates’ courts in cities including Liverpool, South Tyneside and Hull.
The unrest was initially triggered hours after a vigil was held for the victims of the dance class attack. An angry mob, driven by false rumours that the suspect was a Muslim asylum seeker, targeted Southport’s mosque. The violence has since escalated, with mobs attacking hotels housing asylum seekers and several mosques.
The situation has also deteriorated in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where a supermarket was set on fire and police faced petrol bombs and stone-throwing rioters on Monday evening.
The Indian High Commission’s advisory aims to ensure the safety of Indian nationals amid the ongoing unrest and highlights the importance of staying informed and avoiding volatile areas.
