Pune: 21-Year-Old Commits Suicide in Hinjewadi Rehab Center After Drug Supply Cut Off
Pune: In a tragic incident at the Nityanand Rehabilitation Centre in Hinjewadi, a young man, unable to access his regular drug supply, committed suicide in the facility’s restroom. The incident came to light around 6 AM. The deceased has been identified as Anup Lokhande (21), a resident of Tadiwala Road.
According to reports, Anup Lokhande had developed an addiction to certain pills available in the Tadiwala Road area. He frequently acquired these drugs from his friend. On August 1st, Anup attended the Annabhau Sathe Jayanti celebration at Sarasbaug and returned home the next morning, August 2nd, around 8 AM, heavily intoxicated and without his vehicle and mobile phone, which remain missing.
His mother admitted him to the Nityanand Rehabilitation Centre in Hinjewadi on the same day. However, on Tuesday morning, Anup was found to have hanged himself with a towel in the bathroom.
Anup’s mother has demanded severe punishment for Anup’s friends who introduced him to drugs and Pawale, who supplied them. The Bundgarden Police Station is currently registering a case based on her complaint.
“There is rampant open drug dealing in the Tadiwala Road area, seemingly with police complicity, leading many youths into addiction. I lost my son because of this, and I don’t want anyone else to suffer the same fate. The police should take stringent action against those supplying these drugs,” pleaded Bharti Lokhande, Anup’s mother. Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Gaikwad of Bundgarden Police Station confirmed that an investigation is underway and promised strict action based on the findings.
