The processions for immersing Ganpati idols on Anant Chaturdashi began around 10:30 am on Tuesday in Pune and continued into Wednesday morning, with police expecting them to last until the afternoon.
The celebrations for Anant Chaturdashi, marking the last day of the Ganesh festival, started in Pune and nearby areas on Tuesday morning to say goodbye to the beloved deity. The air was filled with chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya,” inviting the deity to return next year, along with “Ganpati Gele Gavala, Chain Padena Amhala,” expressing the longing felt as Ganpati departs. By midnight, the immersions for the five manache Ganpati mandals—Shri Kasba Ganpati Mandal, Tambdi Jogeshwari Mandal, Guruji Talim Mandal, Tulshibaug Mandal, and Kesri Wada Mandal—as well as the Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganesh Mandal were completed. However, several other prominent mandals were still set to proceed with their immersions as of Wednesday morning.
According to the information provided by the Pune police, nearly 3,800 Ganesh mandals were registered this year. Police officials reported that they closely monitored any violations regarding noise pollution levels and the use of high-intensity beam lights, for which they had issued prohibitory orders.
Last year, the Ganesh immersion processions in Pune took a total of 30 hours and 25 minutes to complete. The duration for the processions in 2022 was only slightly longer, lasting 31 hours.
