Pune: Rohan Abhilasha Society Residents Demand Old Meters Back, Allege 2–3 Times Higher Electricity Bills After Smart Meter Installation
Pune: Residents of Rohan Abhilasha Society, located on the Lohegaon-Wagholi Road, have alleged that their electricity bills have increased by two to three times after the installation of smart electricity meters. The residents claim the sudden spike in bills has placed an unexpected financial burden on several households.
According to the residents, smart meters were installed in many homes without obtaining their consent. They allege that ever since the new meters were installed, monthly electricity bills have risen significantly despite no major change in their electricity consumption.

Residents further said they have been submitting complaints and regularly following up with the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL/MSEB) for the past month. However, they claim they have not received any satisfactory response or resolution from the authorities.
Demanding immediate action, the residents have urged the power utility to reinstall the old electricity meters until the issue is resolved. They have also sought a detailed technical investigation into the functioning of the smart meters and the billing process to determine the reason behind the alleged increase in electricity bills.
The residents have appealed to the electricity department to address their concerns at the earliest and ensure transparency in the implementation of smart meters.
