PUNE: The Maharashtra government has approved ₹1 crore for the preparation of an alternative analysis report (AAR) and a detailed project report (DPR) for the Pune Metro Phase 2. This decision comes following the completion of Pune Metro Phase 1, and the reports will guide the expansion of the city’s metro network as per the Government of India’s guidelines.

The directive was issued by Vijay Chaudhari, deputy secretary of the state urban development department. Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) has been tasked with preparing the AAR and DPR for seven new metro line extensions covering approximately 82.5 km under Phase 2. The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has agreed to fund 50% of the total cost under the urban transport planning and capacity building scheme, as per a report in Hindustan Times.

Atul Gadgil, director (works) at Maha-Metro, noted that both the state and central governments are contributing equally towards the project. The state has already released ₹39.72 lakh of the approved ₹1 crore as a subsidy grant to Maha-Metro for this purpose.
