Six Rescued After Moshi Garbage Depot Building Collapse; Search Continues
Pimpri Chinchwad, July 8: A ground floor plus two floor reinforced cement concrete (RCC) building housing a canteen and office at the Moshi Garbage Depot collapsed on Wednesday evening after its foundation reportedly gave way, triggering a major rescue operation.
The incident occurred during lunch hours, raising fears that several employees may have been trapped beneath the debris. Officials said the exact number of people inside the building at the time of the collapse is still unknown.
According to preliminary information, voices of some trapped workers were heard from beneath the rubble, indicating that they were alive. Rescue teams immediately launched an intensive search and rescue operation.
PCMC Fire Department officials said six people one woman and five men have been rescued with injuries and shifted for medical treatment. Authorities suspect that at least two more people may still be trapped under the debris, and search operations are continuing.
Fire officials confirmed that no fatalities have been reported so far. However, they added that the exact number of people who were inside the building remains unconfirmed.
As part of the rescue effort, firefighters created an access hole by cutting through the first-floor slab and metal reinforcements. Two rescue personnel were lowered through the opening to search for those trapped beneath the collapsed structure.
Rescue operations are underway, and officials are expected to release further details as the operation progresses.
