Pimpri-Chinchwad, July 8, 2026: A prolonged power outage that has persisted for more than 72 hours in the southwest region of Pimpri-Chinchwad has disrupted the lives of lakhs of residents, prompting the Forum for IT Employees (FITE) to call for urgent intervention by the authorities.

According to FITE, the crisis has extended far beyond the loss of electricity, severely affecting access to essential services. Several residential societies have reportedly been without water supply for the past 48 hours, resulting in an acute shortage of drinking water. Bottled water is said to be in short supply at many local stores, while widespread disruption of mobile networks has made even basic communication difficult.

The outage has also left elevators non-operational, creating significant challenges for senior citizens, patients, persons with disabilities, women, and young children. Healthcare services, communication networks, drinking water supply, and other essential public services have been adversely affected.

Residents have reportedly made repeated attempts to contact the concerned authorities but have complained of inadequate information regarding restoration efforts. Some have also alleged receiving an unresponsive or discourteous response from officials. FITE said the absence of regular and transparent official updates has increased confusion and anxiety among the affected population.

The power disruption has impacted several areas, including Akurdi, parts of Nigdi, Bijlinagar, Ravet, Punawale, Kiwale, Mamurdi, Mukai Chowk, Adarsh Nagar, parts of Dehu Road, Sai Nagar, and surrounding localities. FITE stated that the situation has become so severe that some families have been forced to temporarily relocate.

FITE said it has formally apprised Maharashtra Minister of State for Energy Meghana Deepak Sakore-Bordikar and MLA Shankarsheth Jagtap of the situation. According to the organisation, both public representatives have acknowledged the seriousness of the issue and are coordinating with the concerned agencies to expedite the restoration of power supply and provide relief to affected residents.

The organisation has urged the administration to restore electricity on a war footing, issue regular and transparent updates on the restoration process, and ensure the immediate availability of drinking water, healthcare services, and other essential facilities in the affected areas.

FITE emphasized that swift and effective action is critical to safeguard the well-being and daily lives of lakhs of residents impacted by the prolonged outage.
