Pune City To Get 2,886 New CCTV Cameras To Enhance City Security

Pune City To Get 2,886 New CCTV Cameras To Enhance City Security A groundbreaking ceremony for various projects under the Home Department, worth over ₹700 crore, was held today in Pune. During the event, a dialogue took place with police officers and personnel about the future of policing. Pune is one of the fastest-growing urban centers in the country, which brings with it increasing challenges, including a rise in crime. The structure of police stations and their staff had not been updated since 1960. After 63 years, in 2023, a new structural framework was introduced, and today, seven new police stations were inaugurated in Pune to address the needs of the growing population. One of the key initiatives to ensure safer cities is the installation of a comprehensive CCTV network. In Phase II of this project, 2,886 new cameras will be installed across the city. The collaboration with Google will further bring qualitative changes in policing by utilizing AI technology to enhance law enforcement efforts. Additionally, to address the traffic issues in Pune, the state government has decided to create a new 'Additional CP' post for traffic management and an extra 'DCP' post for more efficient policing. At the same event, the foundation stone was laid for the new Bund Garden Police Station. Online inaugurations were also held for the Assistant Commissioner of Police offices under the Mira-Bhayander-Vasai-Virar Police Commissionerate, as well as the Tulinj and Bolinj police stations. Further, the foundation stone was laid for the new Pune City Police Commissionerate building. A 50-acre site has been secured for the new Pimpri Chinchwad Commissionerate building, with an official government decision to be announced tomorrow. Work is also underway to establish a state-of-the-art forensic lab to aid in evidence management. The Home Minister expressed satisfaction with the record recruitment of 40,000 police personnel during his tenure. Additionally, the state has adopted a 'No Tolerance Policy' against crimes involving women, children, and drugs. Policing is ultimately evaluated by how many crimes are solved and how secure the public feels. The event was attended by senior dignitaries including the Director General of Maharashtra Police, Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol, MP Medha Kulkarni, MLA Ram Shinde, MLA Bhimrao Tapkir, and other notable officials.
