Lack of Mobile Network at Pune Metro’s Underground Stations Frustrates Commuters, Forces Physical Ticket Purchases

The Pune Metro, a flagship transportation project, is struggling with a basic yet crucial issue – the lack of Jio network connectivity in underground stations. This has resulted in unnecessary harassment for commuters, forcing them to rely on physical ticket purchases.
The affected stations include Swargate, Kasba, Mandai, Shivajinagar, and Civil Court. Noticeboards at ticket windows clearly display the message: “Jio network is unavailable on this station.” This notification serves as a stark reminder of the connectivity issue.
Commuters are frustrated, citing long queues at ticket windows due to the inability to purchase digital tickets while underground. “We’re forced to waste time in lines because of the lack of Jio network,” said a daily commuter. “It’s inconvenient and unnecessary.”
When approached for comment, metro officials refused to address the issue, citing the model code of conduct as an excuse. “We cannot comment on this matter due to the ongoing code of conduct,” an official stated. This evasive response has left commuters feeling neglected.
The disparity between telecom providers is evident, as Airtel’s network remains robust in these areas. Passengers are urging the Pune Metro Rail authorities to engage with Jio and establish a reliable network.
The Pune Metro Rail Project aims to provide efficient transportation, but connectivity issues undermine this objective. Authorities must take prompt action to resolve this issue.
As the Pune Metro continues to expand, addressing this basic connectivity issue is crucial. Commuters deserve a hassle-free travel experience, and it’s time for authorities to take action.
