Pune RTO Mandates Online Vehicle Registration For Schools To Enhance Student Safety
In response to the alarming rise in crime incidents in schools and colleges in Pune, including sexual exploitation and molestation, the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has introduced a new rule mandating online registration of vehicles owned by educational institutions. The decision comes after a series of disturbing incidents, including the sexual assault of a minor girl in a school van in the Wanawadi area. With over 6,000 school vans registered in the city, the authorities are taking concrete steps to ensure student safety.
As per the new rule, all schools and colleges in Pune must register their vehicles, including buses and vans, on the RTO website within 15 days. Additionally, school van drivers must obtain a qualification certificate, with currently only 60% of drivers possessing this essential document.
The education department will issue notices to schools that fail to comply with the new regulation. This move aims to bolster safety measures and prevent such incidents.
“Pune RTO is committed to ensuring the safety of students,” said an RTO official. “We will strictly monitor compliance and take action against non-compliant institutions.”
The new rule is part of a broader effort to enhance safety measures in schools and colleges. By implementing this regulation, Pune RTO and the education department demonstrate their commitment to safeguarding students and preventing such incidents in the future.
With this new rule, Pune takes a significant step towards protecting its students and preventing crime incidents in educational institutions.
