Viral Video of MS Dhoni: When You Have the Highest Number of Stumpings in the World, but Your Wife Says, 'Tumko Kuch Nahi Pata Hai
The legendary wicketkeeper finds himself ‘schooled’ by Sakshi Dhoni on a cricket rule, as he teases a return for another IPL season.
In a light-hearted moment that has taken social media by storm, former India captain MS Dhoni shared a story where he was hilariously ‘schooled’ by his wife Sakshi Dhoni on the rules of cricket. The tale centers around a disagreement over whether a batsman can be stumped on a wide ball, and even the record-holding wicketkeeper had to sit back as Sakshi insisted her interpretation was correct.
During a recent event, Dhoni recounted watching a match with Sakshi, where a batsman was stumped after stepping out of the crease on a wide delivery. While the umpires reviewed the decision, Sakshi confidently declared, “It’s not out,” and stood firm in her stance even as the batter began to walk off.
“She said you cannot get stumped on a wide ball. I explained that you can, but not on a no-ball. Still, she insisted the umpires would call him back,” Dhoni recalled, laughing.
When the decision was finally given as ‘out’, Sakshi simply remarked, “There is something wrong,” leading to a humorous admission from Dhoni that even he isn’t always the authority on cricket rules at home.
While the viral story drew laughs, Dhoni hinted at a more significant cricket update. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) icon all but confirmed his intention to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, saying he wants to enjoy his remaining years in the sport just like in his childhood days—playing for the love of the game. This aligns with recent comments from CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan, who is optimistic about Dhoni’s return.
Dhoni’s presence in the next IPL is likely as an uncapped player, thanks to a rule that allows cricketers who have retired from international matches for over five years to be considered uncapped.
Reflecting on his 2024 IPL season, Dhoni shared his reasoning for batting lower down the order. Post his knee surgery in 2023, he chose to play a supportive role, offering more opportunities to young Indian players competing for a spot in the T20 World Cup 2024.
“The goal was to give game-time to those vying for the World Cup. I was comfortable down the order since our team was performing well,” Dhoni explained.
With the retention list deadline for the upcoming season set for October 31, all eyes are now on the CSK management’s decisions regarding their iconic captain.
As Dhoni’s journey continues, fans can look forward to more legendary moments both on and off the field, as he balances his playful domestic life with the serious world of professional cricket.
