Pune News: Controversy Surrounds NCP’s Decision To Field Sunil Tingre In Upcoming Elections
The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has sparked controversy by giving a ticket to Sunil Tingre, a leader implicated in the 2024 Pune Porsche crash case, to contest in the upcoming elections. Tingre’s involvement in the case, which claimed the lives of two young engineers, Anish Kudhya and Ashwini Kosh, has raised questions about the party’s judgment.
The families of the victims have expressed outrage, demanding justice and questioning the party’s decision. “We are shocked and disappointed that Tingre has been given a ticket,” said Om Paddiya, Anish Kudhya’s father told a news publication. “He should be held accountable for his actions, not rewarded with a chance to contest elections.”
The Porsche crash case had highlighted allegations of political interference and preferential treatment. Tingre’s visit to the police station in the middle of the night, allegedly to intervene on behalf of the accused, had raised eyebrows.
NCP leaders have defended the decision, stating that Tingre’s name was not in the charge sheet and that he was innocent until proven guilty. “Sunil Tingre is a dedicated party worker and has been falsely implicated in the case,” said an NCP spokesperson. “We are confident that he will emerge victorious in the elections.”
However, the families of the victims have vowed to fight for justice, announcing plans to file a petition in the Bombay High Court seeking Tingre’s involvement in the crime. “We will not rest until justice is served,” said Sompreet, Ashwini’s brother while speaking with media. “The people will see through this and make their decision at the polls.”
The controversy surrounding Tingre’s nomination has cast a shadow over the NCP’s election campaign, with opponents seizing on the issue to attack the party. The elections for the 288-member Maharashtra assembly are scheduled for November 20, with votes to be counted on November 23.
As the campaign heats up, the controversy surrounding Tingre’s nomination is likely to remain a major issue, putting the NCP’s reputation and electoral prospects to the test.
