A ticket collector at Western Railway was suspended after he compelled a Marathi couple to communicate in Hindi. He was subsequently detained by the Railway Protection Force (RPF), according to the Marathi Ekikaran Samiti. The couple was also coerced into writing, “We will never demand to talk in Marathi.” This incident has ignited controversy, leading members of the Marathi Ekikaran Samiti to protest at Nalasopara station.

In response to the incident, a spokesperson for Western Railway stated that the ticket collector had been taken off duty and that further actions will be determined following a thorough investigation. The Vasai GRP has filed an FIR under relevant sections, and investigations are ongoing.

The incident was reported on Monday, although the exact date of the occurrence has not been confirmed. Initial reports indicate that a couple with valid railway tickets was confronted by a non-Marathi speaking ticket collector, identified as Rakesh Maurya, who insisted that they talk in Hindi, asserting, “If you are Indian, you should know Hindi.”
